PRODUCT REVIEW: Sanitas Massage Gun

This was my first experience using a massage gun on myself (I’d previously had massage therapists use them on me). They’re a great recovery tool, promoting healing and recovery by increasing blood flow to the muscles. The only self-massage I’d done previously was using a Thera Cane massage stick. They worked good for the upper back I thought but not so much for anywhere else. The massage gun is kind of the opposite. The upper back is probably the hardest to reach with a gun, if you don’t have a partner to assist, but the advantages of a gun over a cane are many.

Firstly the gun vibrates, you can just hold it in place over your sore spots and get the massage. It works all over the major muscle groups of the body. The only spot where the vibrations don’t feel great is the neck as the vibrations make your face feel weird. Hard to describe but I’d prefer non-vibrating massage of the neck (which is often in need of it). 

The other huge advantage of the Sanitas massage gun are the variety of head attachments. Some provide a more distributed massage like the ball or flat attachment or for a more focused pressure point you can use one of the more pointed attachments. They are quick and easy to switch. The intensity level of the vibrations can also be adjusted with six settings. The device is easily charged with a simple USB charge cable.

The Hyperice massage gun, the Hypervolt, is well known in the triathlon space as they do lots of marketing notably partnering with Ironman.
