Triathlon makes a welcome return to Morgan Hill under new management on May 18, 2025 as the Spring Sprint Triathlon. While the name has changed, the course remains the same as when I did the race in 2010, 2018 and 2019. It's a fair, but non-standard distance, where you have to be solid in all three disciplines to do well.
Swim (0.75 miles / ~1300 yds)

It really is a nice clean swim and usually not super cold at that time of year. It's a single loop around an island so you can't be short changed on the advertised distance. The one challenge is if the sun is out it's sometimes shining behind the first buoy so bring a pair of mirrored goggles and line a landmark out on the horizon at the start line. The start is generally out a bit from the shore and there's usually an opportunity to warm up a bit behind the start line.
Bike (16 miles)

It's a nice short run up the boat ramp to transition and there's a nice wide flat section after the bike mount line for a flying mount. I would describe the course as rolling and there is one steep, but short (8%) climb, at 11 miles. So don't blow your legs out completely in the first half and keep in mind it's an extra 3 miles compared to you're average Sprint distance. There's a slightly tricky right hander at the bottom of a descent at 5 miles which is worth checking out before hand. There's enough gear selection going on for it to be an advantage to ride the course in the weeks before. But there's enough flat to more than justify a triathlon/TT bike if you have that option.
Run (5 miles)

T2 is relatively straight forward, just take note of where the run exit is so you're not confused in the heat of the moment. The run is all on the road and out and back so it's easy to pace. It's not completely flat but there's nothing crazy steep or long. There's a sharp turn to the finish line beside the transition area, so scope it out before the race to best time your sprint finish!
