TriHard Shampoo and Conditioner Review

Updated: Jan 16, 2023

As someone with long blonde hair and who swims in the pool regularly, I’ve dealt with all the hair damage and frizziness you could possibly imagine.

I can’t be bothered to spend a long time tending to my hair before or after I swim, so the most effort I put in is just washing it. To combat my chlorine-filled hair, I’ve tested a lot of shampoo and conditioner, from your standard drug store products to swimming-specific ones. Nothing seemed to cut it because my hair would still dry puffy and with crispy ends, which is a sign of hair damage. Not to mention my hair's slight green hue from the chlorine at times, which isn’t really a good look. I'd given up on finding a magical product, thinking this was just the type of hair I had. A few weeks ago I was proven wrong, after using TriHard products for the first time.

To be honest, I wasn’t expecting a huge difference when I tried the TriHard shampoo and conditioner, only because I’d used similar swimming-specific products in the past that didn’t work. I saw the stellar reviews on the TriHard website and of course the pictures of Lucy Charles using the products definitely helped persuade me. I decided on the Swimmers Shampoo Extra Boost, which touted that it would effectively remove chlorine while hydrating the hair.

This shampoo looked promising because my hair often ends up tangled and dried out after the washing stage, which makes my conditioner have to work extra hard. Fast forward to me using it for the first time, and I was shocked that the description actually came true! The shampoo has menthol in it which completely soothed my scalp, foamed into a nice lather and most importantly, it removed all the chlorine from my hair. I could really tell a difference as my hair no longer felt stripped of it's natural oils. Bonus that the menthol made the experience pleasant too, giving my scalp an energizing effect. However, I still had to test how well this shampoo would pair with conditioner, so I wasn’t fully convinced yet.

I got the Pre and Post Swim Conditioner, which should be used before and after you swim. In my opinion, conditioning your hair before getting in the pool isn’t 100% necessary, but it can definitely help. This allows your hair to soak up the conditioner, instead of the pool chemicals and make it less likely you'll damage your hair. Yes, this is an extra step, but try it out and you might be surprised how much it helps.

I wanted to try the TriHard Pre and Post Swim Conditioner after the shampoo because of its description of soothing dry, brittle hair and restoring healthy hair texture. This product was really smooth and super hydrating, probably from the shea butter, almond oil and jojoba oil. In the past, I had to take extra time to work the conditioner into my hair, running my fingers through it to get rid of tangles and spreading it evenly over the ends of my hair. Using the TriHard shampoo was a breeze, however, because it seemed to do all the work for me and I honestly haven’t felt my hair so smooth in a long time. It’s safe to say I was convinced!

The ultimate test was how my hair would end up drying. I don’t do anything fussy like blow drying it or putting extra product in it after I shower, because I just can’t be bothered. After around 5 hours (yes, it takes my thick hair that long to dry…) I couldn’t believe I had such tame and shiny hair! I’ll admit that I was skeptical at first, but this combo of TriHard shampoo and conditioner really did the trick.

Not only was my hair hydrated, but I no longer had frizziness and it actually brought out my natural waves because my texture felt restored to its natural and non-damaged state. I’ve been using it ever since and I don’t see myself turning back. Even if you have short hair, I think you’d notice a difference with a less itchy scalp and a better hair texture. I just placed another order because I won’t be touching my old shampoo and conditioner. I went from dreading my hair on swim days to actually embracing the post-swim process and looking forward to having nice hair. Thanks, TriHard!
