About
Coach Gunnar has over 38 years of triathlon and endurance sports experience, completing his first triathlon back in 1985, at the Keauhou Kona Half. His love for triathlon grew from his early years growing up in Hawaii surfing, paddleboarding and open water swimming, which also led to his career as a California State Ocean Lifeguard.
He studied Health Science and Biology for his undergraduate education and went on to obtain his Masters of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Samuel Merritt College. Throughout his career, he has worked in Emergency Medicine, Neurosurgery, Urology and currently practices in Family/Internal Medicine in Santa Cruz.
After raising a family he returned to triathlon, becoming a frequent age group podium finisher and a 5-time USA Triathlon All-American recipient (2014-2018).
He enjoys working with all levels of athletes and has coached State, National and International-level championship athletes.
